COVID AND TESTERONE

Reports initially coming out of Wuhan China, and now being confirmed globally, are showing that men face a greater risk of severe illness and death from Covid-19 than women. Go figure! Scientists are attributing androgens- male hormones such as testosterone as accelerating the virus’ ability to penetrate cells in the body. Interestingly, it’s men who are bald who tend to end up in hospitals with Covid-19. This is leading researchers to try and get drugs approved that block the effect of androgens.

So if you are a bald man and you think you may have Covid you shouldn’t wait to speak to a doctor. It would be wise to take action immediately since the data seems to be telling a pretty scary story. Amazingly, this connection between androgens and Covid-19 happened over a Zoom call between two sisters both of whom are doctors at the University of California.
